NCFE Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training (DET)

The Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training is a recognised qualification which is designed for those working or wishing to work as teachers within an educational setting. 

Learners who successfully complete this qualification will gain a further knowledge on aspects of planning, delivering and assessing inclusive teaching and learning. Whilst doing this, students will learn about theories and principles in education and training and demonstrate them in their practice. Learners will also carry out research into professionalism in education and training and consider their impact on their role as a fully qualified teacher.

Successful completion of the programme will lead to the award of NCFE Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training from Trafford College.

Entry Requirements

You must be over 18 years old and have the following:

Access to at least 100 hours of teaching (planning, delivery and assessment) in the Learning and Skills sector during the programme.

Level 2 (or above) Maths/Numeracy and English/ Literacy qualifications or confirmation of working towards these qualifications during the programme. 

Level 6 degree qualification. 

Tuition Fees:
£6,000 Per Year

You can choose to pay your tuition up-front or take out a tuition Fee Loan from Student Finance England which currently defers payment until you start earning £25,000 per year.

This course is delivered via a blended learning approach comprising face-to-face online tutorial via virtual meeting platform to support unit delivery and observation of teaching.  

The qualification is assessed through a combination of written essays, presentations, reports, and case studies. The practical element requires the learner to compile a portfolio of teaching evidence and observation of teaching and learning.  

All units, assignments and learning materials for the programme can be accessed through OLC online learning platform. Furthermore, learners will be observed for a total of 8 sessions (minimum 1 hour) during the programme to assess the practical elements of the qualification.  A sample of taught units are:

  • Theories, Principles and Models in Education and Training.
  • Developing Teaching, Learning and Assessment in Education and Training.
  • Developing, Using and Organising Resources in a Specialist Area.
  • Inclusive Practice.

You will be taught by academics that have relevant industry experience and subject specialisms that will help support your learning journey.

This course is taught using blended learning techniques and is very flexible in terms of when you commit to study. Materials are available on line through a virtual learning environment and the tutor provides face to face teaching for each module and virtual support through Microsoft Teams and email correspondence.  

The course provides you with a variety of teaching opportunities, such as different subject areas, various levels, different learning groups or different contexts (for example, development of knowledge and skills).  

The course will provide you with the best Teaching and training skills.

The course can also the development of an existing qualification, as a part of their CPD or CPPD (Continuing Personal and Professional Development).  

Learners who achieve the NCFE Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training will be qualified to teach in the Further and Adult Education Sector. 

Learners will have the opportunity to progress onto a masters or a specialist Diploma in Education and Training course. 

There is also an opportunity to apply for QTLS status once you have gained the level 5 Diploma.
