Are you studying Business at OLC? Are you a budding Entrepreneur? Do you want to gain first-hand experience of planning and running a business?

The Young Enterprise Start-up competition challenges students from across the UK Higher Education sector to develop an original business idea and to set up and run the company. They will then be able to compete with other Universities and Higher Education Colleges from across the country. The regional finals will be held in Liverpool in February 2025 before the national final held in Hertfordshire in May 2025.

At OLC, we are looking to enter a team of Business Students into the Young Enterprise competition. This will be the first time our students will be able to have the opportunity of competing against institutions such as Salford University and Manchester Metropolitan University. Previously successful students have gone on to start their own businesses and having taken part is a great experience to add to your CV. Our own Business Lecturer, Madiea Gulzeb reached the national final in 2013 and Helen Uddin recently competed with her team named ‘redolence’. They will both tell you what a good experience it was to take part. Please take a look at Start Up Magazine for further information.

There are a number of skills that can be developed by being part of the Programme such as developing confidence, entrepreneurial skills and employability prospects.

At OLC, we are inviting students to register their interest either individually or as a team before working towards a proposed business idea in your group. Help and support will be given by your tutors as well as a number of support workshops. Sometime in early November, we will be holding an internal competition to choose the best team to be put forward to the North West final.

If you are studying Business with OLC and are interested, please fill in the online form or speak to your tutor.
